danceroom Spectroscopy Festival

We are incredibly excited to announce the full programme for the danceroom Spectroscopy Festival, organised by the Watershed Media Centre, Bristol.

DS DOME-4

Yes, that’s right, a dedicated dS festival with fun science drop-in day workshops, Hidden Fields performance, energy flow yoga, live molecular music looping and much more! Join us 24 – 26 Oct in our home town of Bristol, at Brunel’s Passenger Shed.

Thurs 24 – Sat 26 Oct
//School Sessions

As part of the festival we will be using dS to deliver an interactive and participative set of mini-lectures/demos for Year 9 pupils at the dS Dome in Brunel’s Old Station Passenger Shed. Using computer science and dance to teach chemistry and physics, the content is being developed by Dr David Glowacki and the staff at Fairfield High School in Bristol. Using video captured at the live dS sessions, a suite of online key stage 3 chemistry and physics educational resources will be created in order to support teachers’ work back in the classroom.

These educational resources are funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry, University of Bristol and University of the West of England.

Fri 25 – Sat 26 Oct
//Hidden Fields

This award-winning dance performance combines stunning visuals and soundscapes to provide a glimpse into the beauty of our everyday movements, showing how we interact with the hidden energy fields that surround us all.

Using dS, Hidden Fields interprets dancers as energy fields whose movement creates ripples and waves in an invisible sea of energy. It’s a gentle piece comprised of sounds and images which are generated in real-time by energetic ripples created by the dancers’ movements. This beautiful piece has been critically lauded since its premiere in Bristol this summer – it’s an enthralling fusion of science, art and dance that makes the invisible visible and the unconnected, connected.

Sat 26 Oct from 10:00
//Drop-in Day

10:00 – 11:00
//Energy Flow Yoga – with Emma Harrie

Using the danceroom Spectroscopy System to play with energy fields within the human body. We will touch on meditation, energy flow in your yoga practise and play with energy exchanges between people. This will be a fun interactive hour to explore your energy body. No experience necessary, please wear clothes comfortable for moving in and bring a yoga mat or comfortable surface to kneel on. Recommend age 15 and over.

11:00, 13:00, 15:15 (duration 15 minutes each)
//David Glowacki – Introducing dS

David Glowacki, the scientist behind dS will introduce some of the meaning and science behind danceroom Spectroscopy during a fun 15 minute exploration of the invisible world of nano-particles.

13:45 – 14:30
//Dancing in and out of Contact: Making Connections – with Lisa May Thomas

We invite you to come along and participate in a short dance session to explore how we can make connections to each other using simple movements based around touch, connection, trust and support. Working with dS, we will explore the energetics of contact and particle transference in the virtual domain, and observe how this translates to our moving bodies in the physical space. No experience necessary, please wear clothes comfortable for moving in and non-heeled shoes.

15.30 – 16:30
//Molecular Music – with Lee J Malcolm

Explore the vibrational sounds of molecules in dS with musician Lee J Malcolm. Join Lee for an hour long musical molecular jam with organic sounds, live looping, and a minimal one on one particle experience. Lee J Malcolm is a music producer/song writer/performer. He is a member of Vessels, a live electronic band.
